We don’t often schedule gigs on a Sunday, but this band is, we think, a bit special...
Brown Horse is a Norwich-based country rock band. Rooted in a collaborative approach to songwriting, the six-piece blends guitar-driven 90s alternative rock with the folk and country sounds of the 70s. Reservoir is their debut album, and although recorded over just four days in a quiet corner of Norfolk, it is a collaborative effort years in the making.
The songs of Reservoir are grounded in a country-rock tradition. While the band acknowledges indebtedness to the turn-of-the-millennium alt-country sounds of Uncle Tupelo, Silver Jews, Lucinda Williams, and Jason Molina (they’ve also been called Norwich’s answer to The Felice Brothers), the album's songs are timeless and also reminiscent of the preceding generation of seventies folk-rock artists (The Flying Burritos, Gene Clark), as well as more recent acts like Big Thief.
The sound of Brown Horse is rich and layered, with lap steel, electric guitar, and accordion, along with four singers adding variety and emotional heft to the mix.
