Clark Tracey returns to The Bear, having sold the place out on his last visit. Clark has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years since joining his distinguished father Stan Tracey's bands in 1978. His quintet features award-winning pianist Dave Newton and superb bassist Andrew Cleyndert. They will be joined on saxophone by not just one, but two renowned players—Art Themen and Simon Allen.
A five-time recipient of the 'Best Drummer' award at the British Jazz Awards, Clark has led his own groups since the early 1980s. As a freelance drummer, he has had the opportunity to work alongside many jazz greats from America, as well as most of the UK's top names.
Art Themen, a fantastically exciting, playful, and inventive saxophonist, has been a beloved character of the British jazz scene for over 50 years. Famously combining his role as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with saxophone duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey, among many others, The Observer described him as "one of the tiny handful of undeniably perfect jazz musicians." He remains as brilliant and inimitable as ever.
Simon Allen began his career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Pendulum Jazz Orchestra, performing alongside jazz stars such as Gerard Presencer, Jamie Cullum, and Peter King. He played in the late great Stan Tracey’s various groups and is featured on his final two quartet recordings, as well as octet and big band album releases.
