CLARK TRACEY’S “JAZZ CHAMPIONS”

Clark Tracey returns to The Bear having sold out the place on his last visit. He has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years since joining his distinguished father Stan Tracey's bands in 1978.

A five-time recipient of the 'Best Drummer' award at the British Jazz Awards, Clark has led his own groups since the early 1980s and as a freelance drummer, Clark has had the opportunity to work alongside many jazz greats from America, as well as most of the UK's top names.

Clark will be joined on saxophone by not one but two renowned players - Art Themen and Simon Allen.

A fantastically exciting, playful, and inventive saxophonist, Art Themen has been a beloved character of the British jazz scene for over 50 years, famously combining his role as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon with saxophone duties in the bands of Alexis Korner and Stan Tracey, among many others. Described by The Observer as "one of the tiny handful of undeniably perfect jazz musicians,” he remains as brilliant and inimitable as ever.

Simon Allen began his career with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra and the Pendulum Jazz Orchestra, performing alongside the likes of jazz stars Art Themen, Gerard Presencer, Jamie Cullum, and Peter King. Between 2005-2013, Simon played in the late great Stan Tracey’s various groups and is featured on his final two quartet recordings, as well as octet and big band album releases.

The quintet also features award-winning pianist Dave Newton and superb bassist Andrew Cleyndert.
