We are delighted to welcome Clark Tracey back to The Bear.
Clark has been at the forefront of British jazz for over 40 years, since joining his distinguished father Stan Tracey's bands in 1978. He has led his own groups since the early 1980s - showcasing the considerable talents of young musicians, giving them a platform to explore their own compositions, and allowing them to perform to a much wider audience. As a freelance drummer, Clark has had the opportunity to work alongside many jazz greats from America, as well as most of the UK's top names.
This evening, he will be joined on sax by Alex Clarke - an artist he booked for Herts Jazz Festival in 2021, and has worked with regularly ever since. Alex was a finalist in the BBC Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2020, and winner of the ‘Rising Star’ category in the 2019 British Jazz Awards. She has recorded her most recent album on Clark's ‘Stray Horn Records’ label.
The quintet also features the multi-award winning pianist Dave Newton, who has worked with Clark since the early 1980s, and the virtuoso bassist James Owston, who has performed in Clark's groups since leaving college in 2018.
Completing the line up is Emily Masser, a rising star on vocals from the Guildhall School of Music.
