This quartet comprises some of the finest up-and-coming London musicians. Led by pianist and composer Finn Carter, the members of this group all approach improvising from the same perspective: trying to serve the music and remove the ego from the performance.
With credits including Loyle Carner, Rex Orange County, Sampha, and Tom Misch, these in-demand players are all virtuosos in their own right but the music they create together is, like all great bands, much more than the sum of their parts: it is sensitive, emotive, and collaborative.
The quartet members’ shared approach to improvising is also supported by their diverse range of influences which, combined with a deep knowledge of the jazz tradition, allow the music to explore new territories each time they play together. Compositionally, Finn’s tunes showcase a blending of his love of jazz, soul, and hip-hop, which allows his music to feel both deeply personal and widely accessible.
Playing their first show as a quartet in late 2021, the Finn Carter Quartet have had a string of successful sold-out shows, including a main show at Ronnie Scott’s and closing out Brick Lane Jazz Festival 2022. In late 2022, they went to Arda Recorders in Porto to record their debut album, Hymn For My Dad, which will be released later this year.
