Born and raised in Wiltshire, Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduate Henry Spencer has established himself as one of the leading up-and-coming trumpet players, composers, and bandleaders on the London jazz scene today.
Having toured extensively in a range of jazz groups and pop/rock bands, he formed his own group as an outlet for his compositions. His band’s debut performance won the Best Newcomer Award at Marlborough Jazz Festival. Prior to releasing his critically acclaimed debut album, The Defector, he won the UK’s Emerging Excellence Award.
His EP release in 2022, The Survivor and The Descendant, was made in New York with multi-Grammy winner Dave Darlington (Miles Davis, Prince, Herbie Hancock, Michael Jackson).
Touching on jazz, rock, and minimalism, the music combines Henry’s spectacular technique, intense raw energy, and evocative outlets with moments of intimate, heartfelt, and emotionally-led lyrical melodies—almost as if there were words being sung.
Featuring Henry Spencer (trumpet and flugelhorn), Ant Law (guitar), Matt Robinson (piano), and Jamie Murray (drums).
