Pianist and singer Jonathan Gee brings his all-star band to The Bear, combining three of his recent shows into one. He is joined by Denys Baptiste on saxophone, Mikele Montolli on bass, and Tristan Maillot on drums.
The performance features three distinct parts: Beatles Reimagined, an 80s music project, and original compositions. Beatles Reimagined transforms classic Lennon and McCartney songs with a contemporary jazz twist, drawing from Jonathan's album collaboration with Gaetano Partipilo. The 80s project, originally created for Lichfield Music Festival, reimagines hits from Spandau Ballet, Kate Bush, Wayne Shorter, and Michael Brecker. Finally, Jonathan presents original works from his latest albums, including The Lions Revisited.
Jonathan is a highly imaginative composer-pianist with numerous projects and collaborations. He has worked with renowned artists like Bobby Wellins, Claire Martin, Tim Whitehead, Joe Lovano, Mark Murphy, and Art Farmer. With Tony Kofi, he co-founded the Monk Liberation Front, whose legendary performances of the complete Thelonious Monk catalogue have led to award-winning recordings.
Jonathan has appeared on The Lesley Garrett Show, BBC’s In Tune, and Loose Ends. He has also appeared on a number of albums released by Luton’s legendary 33 Records.
Jonathan’s quartet is completed tonight by absolute stellar saxophone player, Denys Baptiste. From the moment he joined the London jazz circuit, Denys displayed extraordinary talent, energy and commitment. Spotted by veteran Jazz Warriors double bassist, Gary Crosby at the bassist’s regular Tomorrow’s Warriors jam sessions, Denys was immediately invited to join Crosby’s new band, Nu Troop. Since then, Denys has played with everyone who is anyone and has released multiple award-winning albums of his own. We are delighted to welcome him to The Bear for what we believe to be the first time.

“A wonderful album to sit and relax to, with maybe a cognac or two, and luxuriate in the playing and singing of Gee who has created an intimate and absorbing album”
