XMAS PARTY #1 with RACHEL SUTTON & THE ROLAND PERRIN TRIO

The first of our two traditional events before Christmas is the more civilised and chilled affair of the two (those who come to the final one will know what we mean). Tonight, we welcome this much sought after ensemble to the club for the first time and celebrate chrimbo in style.

Rachel Sutton’s rich tone and sense of swing, coupled with her background in theatre, makes her an engaging interpreter of both classic jazz and more contemporary repertoire. Also a gifted lyricist, Rachel’s debut album A Million Conversations displays her talent for both achingly tender and uplifting song writing.

She has worked with some of the best known musicians from the world of jazz music and her work as a lyricist has seen her collaborate with Liane Carroll and Lance Ellington, amongst others.

When performing live, her extensive repertoire, including her own compositions, is both an exciting and moving experience for her audience.

Her theatrical training is at the core of every song, and her flair for entertainment and easy rapport with an audience is gaining her a first class reputation.

Rachel was born and raised in the Kent countryside and grew up listening to the romantic ballads of Cole Porter and George Gershwin, the soulful sounds of Stevie Wonder and Billy Joel and the haunting beauty of Joni Mitchell, Janis Ian and Judy Collins.

A theatre student at Glamorgan University and The Welsh College of Music and Drama, she went on to play some of the lead roles in Shakespeare, touring the UK and Europe. Rachel’s vocal abilities landed her roles in award winning shows at the Edinburgh and New York Fringe and this propelled her into the world of singing full time.

Rachel has performed sell out gigs at top London Jazz clubs as well as venues and festivals across the UK and abroad. Her role in Lansky: The Mob’s Money Man at The Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank and Cadogan Hall received wide acclaim.

Accompanying Rachel this evening will be her world class band: pianist and composer Roland Perrin, bass player Michael Curtis Ruiz, and drummer Paul Robinson.
