We’re honoured to welcome London-born tenor saxophonist Ralph Moore to The Bear. Over his long and illustrious career, he has recorded and performed with an array of jazz stars including Dizzy Gillespie, Horace Silver, Freddie Hubbard, Ray Brown, and Roy Haynes.
Ralph was a true star of the New York jazz scene throughout the 1980s and, after relocating to LA in the 90s, he performed in the band for The Tonight Show with Jay Leno for 15 years. During this time, he collaborated in various cooperative jazz quartets and quintets, including the aptly named Escape from New York, which featured fellow Tonight Show band members Marvin “Smitty” Smith on drums, and Bob Hurst on bass.
With The Tonight Show now well behind him, Ralph is poised to return to what he does best - and innately who he is - a jazz musician playing and creating the music he loves.
Ralph will be joined by a stellar line-up which includes Simon Woolf on double bass, and Nat Steele on vibes.
“While clearly inspired by John Coltrane, Moore possesses a round and burnished sound that sets him apart from his contemporaries”
“Powerful evidence that those of us concerned by the passing of such heavyweights as Sonny Stitt, Budd Johnson, and Lockjaw Davis, can at least feel confident about the future of jazz tenor”
