We welcome The Stevie Watts Organ Trio back to The Bear for what will be a sure-fire night of infectious grooves, as they explore their own blend of Hammond funk, blues and soul, with just a hint of jazz.
One of the UK’s most sought-after Hammond players Stevie Watts (Steve Winwood, Arthur Brown, Secret Affair, Joe Louis Walker, Kirk Fletcher) and Nat Martin (Toyah, Thomas Dolby) met through working together in singer Jo Harman’s band, where they quickly became good friends. The trio was then formed with Stevie's friend and drummer Vinnie Lammi (Cocteau Twins, Robbie Williams, Spice Girls). A year or so into writing instrumentals for the project, Stevie started co-writing with Alice Armstrong which led to the making of their highly acclaimed debut album, Mission to the Moon.
The fire and energy that this band creates defies the fact that they’re a trio and when joined by Alice, they turn into something that no other band using this format sounds like. Take outstanding players with great songs that lift your spirits and make you dance as well as cry (in a good way), add some infectious funk as well as plenty of rip-roaring solos, and you end up with something that you would be absolutely crazy to miss.
