Makin' Runs, the latest project by internationally acclaimed jazz clarinetist Adrian Cox, delves into the alternative ragtime repertoire from the early jazz era, aiming to capture and express the timeless essence of the music.
According to legend, ''Makin' Runs" is a tune attributed to early, unrecorded jazz cornet player Buddy Bolden, heard by fellow pioneer Bunk Johnson in New Orleans. The phrase symbolises Bolden's vision for inventive improvisations while never repeating himself.
The trio endeavours to emulate that spirit, crafting tight yet dynamic arrangements that honour the music's original intent, allowing ample room for improvisational fire.
At age 40, Adrian Cox is certainly performing at the top of his game. He is one of the world’s leading exponents of the New Orleans clarinet and has a huge wealth of knowledge about the music and the players of the era. His unrivaled feel and virtuosity for the music he plays have led to concerts with the biggest names in jazz, including two concerts with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra, both in London and New York.
Adrian spends the majority of his life on tour around the world and has performed in over 30 countries in the past 18 months.
