JOE FARNSWORTH QUARTET

We welcome renowned American drummer Joe Farnsworth and his quartet for the first time. Joe has spent his life on the bandstand with the kings of jazz, including Pharoah Sanders, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, and George Coleman.

Joe is a member of the Harold Mabern Trio and was a founding member of the renowned One for All Quintet. Remarkably, he was also the drummer for both McCoy Tyner and the Pharoah Sanders Quartet until the great man’s passing in 2022.

His career includes recording over 100 albums as leader and side-man, and jazz festivals and world tours with Pharoah Sanders, Horace Silver, Harold Mabern, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, Diana Krall, Lou Donaldson, and Johnny Griffin.

He is now sharing the stage, and what spirit and wisdom the greats gave him, with the great young alto saxophone player Sarah Hanahan. Sarah plays with the spirit of Jackie McLean and Pharaoh Sanders, but literally nobody else sounds quite like she does.

Joe will be playing a program of music he played with those giants of the past, and playing them with a new spirit in Sarah Hanahan - full force, full of heart, full of the blues. It’s most definitely time to swing.

Featuring Joe Farnsworth (drums), Sarah Hanahan (alto sax), Will Sach (double bass), and Will Barry (piano).

Farnsworth’s new direction is taking him to exciting places. His current associates brought him intense connectedness and the freedom he seems to enjoy while truly committing to the music
