THE GARY BALDWIN BAND FEAT. ROGER BEAUJOLAIS

Hammond organ legend Gary Baldwin turned professional at the age of 15 and quickly established himself as a master of the instrument across many genres, but especially blues, jazz and soul. This evening, he will be joined by Roger Beaujolais (vibraphone), Simon Fernsby (guitar) and Clark Tracey (drums).

Gary Baldwin became nationally renowned as part of The Tommy Chase Band during the hard bop revival of the 1980s and went on to play and record with Doris Troy, Joss Stone, Jools Holland, Van Morrison, Jim Mullen, Alan Barnes and Ronnie Wood, and featured prominently on the classic trip hop albums by Portishead and Morcheeba. More recently, he played at the London Palladium for Beverley Knight’s Stevie Wonder Songbook show, which subsequently toured nationally.

Roger Beaujolais first came to public attention as part of jump jive band The Chevalier Brothers, and enjoyed a session career performing with Robert Plant, Fairground Attraction, Paul Weller, Morrissey and many others before moving into jazz and becoming one of the first artists to sign to Acid Jazz Records.

As part of The Organisation organ group, Simon Fernsby received rave reviews for Point Blank, the album the band recorded with Tony Kofi. They continue to play sold out shows throughout the UK. Simon originally came to prominence with Canadian art rock surrealists The Dave Howard Singers, before joining cult band The House of Love, touring globally and recording.

Clark Tracey has enjoyed 40 years playing alongside some of the most important artists in jazz, both at home and abroad, including Johnny Griffin, Pharaoh Sanders, John Hicks, George Cables, Bud Shank, Ronnie Scott, John Surman, Alan Skidmore, Kenny Wheeler and Alan Barnes. He has recorded over 100 albums, performed in over 50 countries, and picked up multiple awards along the way.
