Tomorrow's New Quartet is quickly gaining a reputation as one of the most exciting jazz bands emerging from the British scene. Taking inspiration from Chick Corea's 'Return To Forever' and Keith Jarrett's 'European Quartet', Tomorrow's New Quartet has been thrilling audiences all over the country with its engaging brand of modern jazz.
Led by drummer/composer Rod Oughton, the band released its debut album 'All Together, Now!' on the Ubuntu Music label in 2022. The band features several young heavyweights from the next generation of British jazz, namely Deschanel Gordon on piano and Flo Moore on bass with not one but two saxophone players: the band’s permanent member George Crowley and special guest from The Netherlands, Ben van Gelder, one of the world’s finest saxophone players.
Rod Oughton studied at the Royal Academy of Music (Junior Department), and completed a Bachelor’s degree at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama with 1st Class Honours. As a sideman, Oughton has played all over the UK and Europe, as well as in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Cuba and Brazil. He has toured with former Buena Vista Social Club member Javier Zalba, legendary British pianist Huw Warren and Irish pop sensation Hudson Taylor.
Ben van Gelder is regarded internationally as an authority on the alto saxophone. Praised for his unique sound, lyricism and personal approach to composition, his music is firmly rooted in jazz tradition but embraces many other musical genres and disciplines.
George Crowley's energy and expressive, warm saxophone sound mark him out as a musician who demands attention and he’s now a key player in the burgeoning creative jazz and improv scene in London.
Deschanel Gordon is one of the finest young pianists on the UK scene and a current nominee for a Parliamentary Jazz Award for Instrumentalist of the Year 2024. He was last seen playing at The Bear as part of the Artie Zaitz Quartet.
Finally, Flo Moore, having been previously a member of both Ezra Collective and Nerija, is one of the most in-demand bass players on the UK scene.
